It is unlawful for an employer to dismiss you because you are pregnant or for reasons connected with your pregnancy or maternity leave. It is also unlawful for your employer to deny you access to holiday pay, sickness pay training or any other contractual benefit that all employees are entitled to.
Pregnancy is not an illness and you do not suddenly become less capable of doing your job.
When you are pregnant but have not yet started your maternity leave, you have the right not to be treated less favourably because of your pregnancy.
• you should be offered the same training and promotion opportunities as other staff
• you should be allowed to keep the same duties and responsibilities
For information on your employment rights during pregnancy and maternity leave, see Equal pay during pregnancy and maternity: your rights.
