GP seminars

Since GP Matters was launched, it has become clear there are some issues and subjects GPs are keen to learn more about.

Some of our services and teams offer special seminars to clinicians and commissioners.

GP Matters is looking to launch a programme of seminars tailored towards our GPs and their needs. Would you be interested in hearing more about Asperger’s syndrome, new treatments and therapies, or developing specific skills?

If so, please email GP Matters at gp.matters@bsmhft.nhs.uk to let us know what you think, and what subjects you would like to see covered.

GPs workshop on engaging and supporting families

Family relationships can influence adherence with treatment and contribute to a person’s recovery in relation to both mental health and physical health issues. If a person has a heart attack this can have a great effect on family members, impacting on their physical and psychological wellbeing.

GPs are in the unique position of being able to develop longstanding relationships with families.

The Meriden Family Programme is developing a skills-based half-day workshop for GPs, aimed at helping them to identify the impact an individual health issue can have on the whole family and strategies for engaging and supporting them.

We are working with GPs to develop the content and would welcome any ideas or thoughts about issues you feel should be included.

Please contact Chris Mansell via email chris.mansell@bsmhft.nhs.uk to share your views.

Meet our new GP liaison officer Julia Buckley

Julia Buckley has been working in Birmingham and Solihull for many years.  After graduating from Aston University, she worked for ten years for Glaxo pharmaceuticals developing strong links with both GPs and consultants across the city. After a short career break Julia became involved in IT training and later joined Heart of England Foundation Trust as a project manager for the Activate project.

In 2007, she joined the Priory Group as GP liaison co-ordinator based at the Woodbourne Priory Hospital in Edgbaston, where she worked with GPs across Birmingham and the West Midlands organising seminars, training days and providing service updates.  Julia joined our trust on January 3 and is based at its headquarters at B1 with the communications team.

Julia is responsible for GP engagement, particularly strengthening links with the newly emerging clinical commissioning groups, and acting as a primary point of contact for GPs across Birmingham and Solihull.  She will also be organising a seminar programme for GPs and would welcome ideas and suggestions for future events. She is happy to visit your surgery and discuss any ideas and concerns you may have with the services of the trust.
