Fanon F.C. - Football Against Stigma and Prejudice in Mental Health

Fanon FC is a joint venture between Birmingham City Council Social Care and Health, the Community Projects Team (South) and the Franz Fanon Centre.

Fanon FC initially started playing in the North Birmingham Sunday Football league - the objective being promotion of social inclusion in a regular social activity that has expectations as well as responsibilities.

In 2006 the team travelled to Germany during the World Cup tournament to play their counterparts in Frankfurt. This was part of the wider SHIFT campaign - football against stigma and prejudice in mental health.

The next steps for the club will be referee and coaching qualifications for service users who would like to undertake them.
