Specialist and Complex Care Services (SCCS)

SCCS provide treatment and care to people aged 65 and over who are experiencing mental health problems.  These include conditions such as depression, anxiety, dementia and Alztheimer's disease.

SCCS provides support in the community through outpatient facilities, day hospitals, community teams and inpatient units.  There are three types of inpatient units within SCCS - assessment units, continuing care units and a respite service. Most of these are purpose-built units based within the local community.

When a person first comes into contact with our services, our staff will usually visit him or her in his or her own home. This reduces the fear and prejudices people often feel when they meet with staff from mental health services. It also allows for a greater understanding and trust between the patient and our staff.  We also work closely with patients, their carers and families to put together a plan of care which suits each individual person.

Mental health services for older people are also provided by our occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychology services.
