Respite Services

Respite is a responsive service where people are admitted to an inpatient unit on either a planned, regular basis or in an emergency.  The aim of respite care is to maintain and improve the person's wellbeing.

It provides a period of temporary care by our mental health staff for older people experiencing mental health problems. This can be for any amount of time, ranging from a day or night to 2 weeks.

Respite staff encourage people to keep using the skills they need to look after themselves, such as washing and dressing. They also offer individual and group programmes and leisure activities which are based on developing a person's senses. This can involve music, smell and hand massage.

For carers and families, respite provides a chance to have a break, while knowing that their relative is being well looked after.
