Day Hospitals

Our Day hospitals provide an opportunity to offer:-

  • more intensive assessment where this is not appropriate in other settings

  • structured treatment

  • support and advice to other community providers

The purpose of Day Hospitals are to enable people to understand and manage their mental health difficulties, working together with the person to reach an improved state of well-being.

Ideally during and after Day Hospital treatment a person can remain in their own home or normal community setting, agreeing with the Day Hospital team a plan of action that meets his or her current and future needs.  The level of input and attendance will be agreed with the person along with regular reviews of progress with the Day Hospital team, so that discharge from service is actively worked at.

Treatments can be offered on a one-to-one basis or within a group.   Not all treatment is recorded within the Day Hospital itself as some treatments are best undertaken in other community based settings.   The Day Hospital has a multidisciplinary staff group, i.e. Doctors, Occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and psychologists who all have input dependent upon the service user's needs.

Groups that may be involved in a service user's Care Plan include:

  • anxiety management

  • loss

  • bereavement

  • managing depression

  • memory groups

Along with a range of therapeutic activities such as:

  • creative writing

  • Tai chi

  • gardening
