The aim of the service is to help people whose personal and/or interpersonal problems adversely affect their mental health and how they live their lives. Devon House has male and female therapists and provides a service for people who are aged 17 and upwards, who are referred by healthcare professionals.
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a particular way of understanding and helping people with mental health difficulties. It is an approach that gathers and considers the patient’s personal story, past and present circumstances, relationship patterns and inner feelings and emotions.
A fuller appreciation of the individual’s history and of the links between past events and current problems will often bring considerable benefits. These benefits can come about either directly through exploratory forms of ‘talk therapy’, or less directly through contact and communication with others involved in the patient’s assessment, treatment and care.
