COMPASS Programme

The COMPASS programme team supports people who are experiencing severe and long-term mental health problems and problematic drug or alcohol use.

The team offers a Consultation Liaison Service to people who are being supported by staff in either Adult Services or Substance Misuse Services. This is based on six sessions over a 12-week period where the individual, their mental health/ drug worker, and a member of the COMPASS programme team discuss the problems the person is facing.

The aim is to help people access the services they need. Most of the people referred to the team are seen in their own homes or at their local mental health centre.

The COMPASS Programme is highlighted as a model of good practice in the Department of Health Dual Diagnosis Good Practice Guide (2002).
