The following sites offer a variety of opportunities to access information and advice on mental health. They may also offer links to other sites. You will be navigating to external sites and BSMHFT cannot be responsible for their content.  Always be aware that not all information on the internet is reliable or up to date.

www.equip.nhs.uk - contains information on local voluntary, community, health and social care groups.

www.scmh.org.uk - the Sainsburys Centre for Mental Health – a mental health research organisation.

www.mind.org.uk - the MIND website allows you to view and print off leaflets on all conditions, treatments, rights and alternative therapies. Also MIND campaigns and contains special interest sections.

www.patient.co.uk - information leaflets on a wide variety of health conditions. Some translations into community languages.

www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk - NHS site with information, advice and signposting to other agencies.

www.healthfinder.gov - American Government site for finding the best health advice.

www.doh.gov.uk - the Department of Health’s site with all official documents and strategies.

www.depressionalliance.org - site of the national depression self help charity. Useful information and details of local groups.

www.rethink.org - useful information on severe mental health issues for carers and users. Details of regional and local activity.

www.samaritans.org.uk - the site of the national helpline containing valuable information and help.

www.surgerydoor.co.uk - popular British health website

www.who.int - World Health Organisation Allowing access to reports, evidence and stategies worldwide.

www.rcpsych.ac.uk - Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people affected by mental illness, this website shows leaflets to print, relevant information, helpful reading, promotes research and informs the public on all mental health issues and treatments.

www.world-schizophrenia.org - Based in Toronto, Canada - prominent web site advocating for world wide best practice in care of psychosis. Make some world wide links and get a global view.

www.discern.org.uk - a brief questionnaire gives an assessment of information, in print or on the internet.

www.omni.ac.uk - Organising Medical Network Information. Academic site giving access to medical research.

www.nice.org.uk - National Institute for Clinical Excellence. Guidelines produced in the pursuit of best practice in the health service.

www.besttreatments.co.uk/btuk/home.html - Best Treatments site. Information comes from clinical evidence. The BMJ worldwide survey has the best, most up to date medical research used by doctors everywhere. This website checks research evidence for you.

www.jr2.ox.ac.uk - Oxford University Medical Website. Over 40 World Wide Web servers ranging from the Division of Public Health to Clinical Medicine. Psychiatry includes research into panic disorders and older adults.

www.babcp.com - British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies - very good user and carer friendly information leaflets accessible as well as a broad range of information around research based therapeutic intervention.

www.iris-initiative.org.uk - Initiative to reduce the impact of schizophrenia. Focuses on best practice in early intervention - care and services. Brightly and well presented - a lot of associated work here in the Birmingham and West Midlands area.

www.bpdcentral.com - American Borderline Personality Disorder site. Includes a list of resources for people who care about someone with BPD. There are also publications, support groups, a look into abuse patterns and the basic needs for BPD patients.

www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk - Alcoholics Anonymous site with over 2 million members. A wide variety of information is available. They include 12 steps of AA, AA traditions and AA literature and publications.

www.addaction.org.uk - Advice on Drugs and Alcohol. Gives help with information on drugs, latest jobs and news. Alcohol treatment and cannabis are talked about by former users and Addaction is UK’s leading drug and alcohol treatment agency.

www.anxietypanic.com - panic attacks information. Deals with the treatment, relief and cure of panic attacks. This American site has been going since 1996 and explains panic attacks affect 1 in 75 people, throughout their lives.

www.alzheimers.org.uk - dedicated to leading the fight against dementia - news, information and research.

www.hearing-voices.org - voluntary group sharing voice hearing experiences. Includes details of events / training.

www.sada.org.uk - Seasonal Affective Disorder site

www.schizophrenia.com - American Schizophrenia site, started in 1995. Has a wide variety of related topics including chat boards and discussion. It has information, newsletters, videos, “Frequently Asked Questions”, facts and statistics with recovery and resources.

The organisation produces excellent carers information packs outlining welfare benefits and carer support services, including a carers helpline in Birmingham.
