Disability

As an organisation providing services to people with mental health problems we are particularly committed to ensuring that the protections of the Disability Discrimination (Amendment) Act 2005 in relation to mental illness as a disability are provided to users of our services.  We will tackle discrimination not only in our own provision but also through our work on anti-stigma.

We will continue to make sure that people who use our services and have additional impairments (physical or sensory) or physical health conditions receive a service of equal quality to those who do not.

In employment, we actively promote a culture where the talents and experience of all disabled people are valued. We make every effort to ensure that we provide the support and adjustments that all employees and potential employees need to get into, stay in, and get on in employment with our Trust.

We are a Disability Confident Employer

On 7 March 2017, we were confirmed to be a disability confident employer by the government's Disability Confident Scheme. Our Disability Confident Employer badger is valid until 8 February 2019, and it will help us demonstrate on our website and other external publications that we are a disability confident employer.

Being a 'disability confident employer' means that we have completed the disability confident self-assessment and are taking all of the 'core actions' to be a disability confident employer. These core actions include, for example:

  • actively looking to attract and recruit disabled people

  • providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process

  • ensuring employees have appropriate disability equality awareness

  • promoting a culture of being disability confident

You can find out more here.

We are now looking to become a Disability Confident Leader, which means that we will have our self-assessment validated, and will demonstrate leadership in encouraging other employers to make the journey to become Disability Confident.
