Race (including nationality and ethnicity)

It has been accepted that over a number of years mental health services have not been delivered to people from black and minority ethnic communities in a way that is appropriate to their needs.

To address this, the government has a five-year action plan, Delivering Race Equality (DRE) in Mental Health, for achieving equality and tackling discrimination in mental health services in England. All health and social care organisations, including our Trust, are expected to deliver the objectives in the action plan.

Our Trust is committed to making rapid and sustained progress in improving mental health services for black and minority ethnic communities.

In our workforce, black and minority ethnic people are well represented when compared with the wider local population. However, certain communities are under represented, and black and minority ethnic staff are under represented in certain occupations and at more senior levels in the organisation. We are continuing to work to make sure our workforce represents our local population at all levels and across all occupations.
