Healthcare Assistant

We currently employ around 730 healthcare assistants (HCAs) in our many and varied clinical environments across the city. HCAs and assistant practitioners (APs) are hugely valued members of our nursing team as they support the care we provide to our service users.

Our services can only be as good as the people who deliver them and so we are passionate about helping our staff to develop their potential. As a member of our team you will get an annual appraisal as well as regular management supervision.

Our nursing service is totally committed to the national 6Cs values set out in Compassion in Practice – namely, Care, Compassion, Commitment, Communication, Courage and Competence.

We have developed our own Trust badge scheme to recognise nursing staff who reflect these values in their practice. Since launching the scheme in 2013 over 160 staff have successfully applied for their Trust badge and these are awarded at special ceremonies twice a year. Our scheme has earned national recognition from NHS Employers and NHS England.

Following application, shortlisted candidates are invited to an assessment event where we explain more about the Trust and the positions currently available. You will also be asked to undertake a written test, a group exercise and an interview on this day.
