October is Speak up Month the pandemic has highlighted that speaking up has never been more important for the benefit of colleagues and service users. Speak Up Month is an opportunity to raise awareness of how much we value speaking up in BSMHFT.
As part of the National Guardians Office 100 Voices campaign, Emma Randle, the Trust’s Freedom to Speak up Guardian, highlights how a junior Doctor in the Trust raised concerns after their educational supervisor had unexpectedly left the trust.
She said, "We know that Junior Doctors can face particular barriers to speaking up; we hadn’t had any disclosures from this group in over two years. By making connections with the Junior Doctor medical leadership and presenting at the Junior Doctor Forum, we have raised awareness of Freedom to Speak Up. This additional channel for speaking up is so important as it gives a voice to those who may not have spoken up otherwise.”

We would encourage our colleagues at BSMHFT to Speak Up if something is not quite right or can be improved.
