New non-executive director appointed at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) is pleased to announce that, following a recent recruitment process, Dr Linda Cullen has joined its Board as a non-executive director from 1 January 2019.

Dr Cullen has worked as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for 25 years in a wide variety of settings across the Midlands.  She is currently a locum consultant in the NHS and also a second opinion doctor for the Care Quality Commission. She has worked closely with colleagues in child and adult services, using research and evidence based practice in developing novel services.  Dr Cullen helped to develop Early Intervention in Psychosis services across Birmingham and acute and high dependency child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), including one of the first CAMHS acute admission wards in the UK. She has also been active as a trainer, tutor, and mentor and for several years in clinical lead and director roles with professional line management responsibilities.

Sue Davis CBE, Chair of the Trust, said: “I am delighted that Linda will be joining our Board and bringing her extensive expertise and knowledge at this pivotal time for the NHS.  In particular, her clinical background and experience of developing and implementing new and innovative services, will be invaluable in our Trust’s development of new models to improve mental healthcare.”

Dr Cullen said: “I am very excited by the opportunity to work with colleagues, service users and carers in Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust to continue to deliver and develop high quality services in Birmingham and Solihull.”

Dr Cullen replaces Dr Nerys Williams, whose term as non-executive director at the Trust came to an end in November 2018.
