Free Touring Theatre Performance - Unsent letters

Peggy is a service user in a medium secure unit who is regarded as an unfit mother for her son, Bradley.  Bradley is put up for adoption when he is seven and the terms of the adoption are such that she can only contact Bradley by sending cards on his birthdays to a PO Box.

In this moving one woman play Peggy’s story unfolds through a series of monologues which represent the letters she can’t send him over the years.  Through her descriptions we see a cast of characters, including her Jamaican parents, her drug dealer boyfriend and the staff and patients in mental health services and we are given an insight into the attitudes to services and the people that use them.  We are also given a picture of the stigma experienced by people with mental health difficulties which can affect their lives and those of their children.

The play will be followed by an interactive debate to promote a wide ranging discussion of the issues raised and how we can reduce the stigma that surrounds people with mental health difficulties.
