Section 12(2) Initial Training Course
Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th May 2011
This two day induction course is designed for doctors seeking approval for the first time under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act. The course content has been approved by West Midlands regional approval panel. This will fulfil the training element of the approval process.
This course is suitable for doctors who meet the eligibility criteria for Section 12 (2) approval. It will equip doctors with the essential knowledge required to support day to day implementation of the Mental Health Act in clinical practice.
Topics and speakers to include:
• The Act in practice—common usage
• Completing section papers
• User & Carer Voice
• The role of the AMHP
• The police, the courts and use of the MHA
• The MHA in specialised areas; CAMHS, LD, Old Age and Forensics
• Case Vignette discussions

This course will be delivered using a combination of presentations, question and answer sessions, and case vignette discussions.

Practitioners working outside the West Midlands: £250
