Announcement from Sue Turner, Chief Executive and Sue Davis, Chair

On October 11, 2012, our Chief Executive, Sue Turner, announced that she will be retiring from Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Sue has been at the helm of our trust in both its current and previous forms for over 16 years.  Sue has dedicated much of her career so far to transforming mental health services in Birmingham and Solihull, as well as making vital contributions at both a regional and national level.

Sue Turner said, “The organisation and its position within the wider health economy are in both a challenging and equally exciting period.  However, we still have much to do in improving the experience patients have within our trust, which will take a reinvigorated approach to quality.

“Having already led the organisation for many years, and with our trust about to begin the process of refreshing its strategy, now seemed a good time for me to step down to enable someone new to drive the trust forward, and for me to take on some fresh challenges.  I am however convinced that this trust is in a strong position for the future and will remain so if everyone pulls together to deliver what is required.”

“It has given me great pleasure and I feel privileged to have led such a dynamic and forward-thinking trust which has such a talented and dedicated workforce at its heart.  My decision has not been an easy one to make and I hope to keep in touch with many of you.”

Sue Davis added: “Sue has made a tremendous contribution to the trust during her years as Chief Executive.  She has worked tirelessly to challenge the stigma associated with mental health, and at the same time she has raised the profile of mental health provision.  This in turn has led to substantial improvements to the quality of mental health facilities and services, and has ensured mental health and wellbeing is firmly on the map in Birmingham and Solihull. ”

It is anticipated that the trust will begin the recruitment process for a permanent Chief Executive in the coming weeks.  More information will be shared with staff in due course.

Best wishes
