Going for gold at London 2012

From Danny Boyle's amazing opening ceremony to providing behind-the-scenes support, the NHS and its staff have played a key role in the delivery of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Dancing nurses and children bouncing on illuminated beds paid a poignant tribute to Great Ormond Street Hospital, whilst our athletes across all disciplines are being supported by medics, psychologists, physiotherapists and other health specialists to ensure they are fit to go for gold.

Meanwhile, NHS staff - including Emma Brady, media and communications manager - have also been volunteering in their spare time as Games Makers across the capital, helping spectators find their way around and answering an array of questions.  Team GB is more than just the athletes on the field, pitch, pool or track - and the world is seeing what makes us special as the Games continue.  Find out more at http://dashboard.dh.gov.uk/.
