Celebrating our nurses

Proud, progressive and professional, that was the clear message from our celebration of nursing event that took place on October 24, at Uffculme Centre.
Nearly 150 nurses from across the Trust attended the event that sought to recognise and celebrate the work of our nursing staff.

Jane Cummings, the Chief Nursing Officer of England gave a video presentation to delegates with a special message congratulating Dee and the Trust on our work towards embedding the 6C’s of nursing; care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment.

The main business of the day was awarding achievement badges to our nursing colleagues and health care assistants. 37 staff collected their badges, which recognise excellent practice from our nurses.

Alongside this, three nursing colleagues and three healthcare assistants presented to a panel how they have reflected the values of the 6Cs in their work. After a lengthy debate Joanne Stockwin a Health Care Assistant on Sage unit at Juniper Centre and Mark Williams, Staff Nurse on Eden Unit won the 6Cs Nursing Award.

A special nursing badge was also awarded to Chief Inspector Sean Russell from West Midlands Police for his pioneering work around the street triage team. Sean, who is also one of our Trust governors, spoke about how honoured and humbled he was to receive the award and the importance of working in collaboration to support people in crisis.
Friends of Highcroft were also there to receive a special award for their work over the years in supporting service users on our Highcroft site.

Wanting to display talents other than nursing, staff joined in to sing along to Three Little Birds by Bob Marley in dedication to Dee Roach, Executive Director of Quality, Improvement and Patient Experience who leaves the Trust at the end of December.

Dee Roach, Executive Director for Quality, Improvement and Patient Experience said “What a wonderful and inspiring event! Today has really demonstrated the nursing talent we have in this organisation and I congratulate all of the nurses who received their nursing badges”.
