Trust works with West Midlands Fire Service to keep our communities safe

Our Trust is working closely with West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) to help keep the most vulnerable people in our communities safe.

Innovative ways of working together were top of the list when Lakhvir Rellon, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships, and Naomi Hawkins, Partnerships Manager met with members of Purple Watch at Ladywood fire station.

WMFS can provide free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to vulnerable people. Ladywood crews will now also be attending events and meetings with people who use our Trust’s services, and helping to spread the word about their community-based education and prevention work.

Firefighter Aaron Bedward said: “People with mental health issues can be among the most at risk from fire. We’re looking forward to working closely with the Trust to identify such people and, importantly, how to keep them safe”.

If you can help the fire service to reach the most vulnerable please call Aaron on 0121 380 7537 or email on aaron.bedward@wmfs.net.

Alternatively he will be happy to come out and speak to groups.

WMFS may also be able to offer FREE Home Safety Checks or send information on fire safety in the home just call the WMFS free phone number 0800 389 5525.

Visits will be made on an appointment only basis and will be arranged at a convenient time for you. The Home Safety Check will take about half an hour, and WMFS personnel will check homes to ensure there are no immediate fire hazards, give fire safety advice in order to keep you safe from fire and also fit free smoke alarm(s) if required.

WMFS personnel will usually be wearing uniforms but will always carry Photographic Identification Cards.  Before allowing WMFS personnel into your home always ask to see the identification card, and if you require confirmation, telephone the freephone helpline on 0800 389 5525.

Home Safety Checks are free – your safety is our concern.
