Published: 16/10/2014

Two teams from Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust have been shortlisted for a prestigious HSJ Award – out of 1,300 entries from 500 organisations throughout the UK.

The winners will be announced at a high-profile ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel, London on 19 November.

The Trust’s finalists are:

  • Research and Innovation team – shortlisted for the Clinical Research Impact award for their hard work instigating innovations in clinical practice and raising the reputation of the organisation over the past 12 months.

The Trust is renown both nationally and internationally for research, has strong academic links with the universities of Birmingham and Warwick, and hosts the Heart of England Mental Health Research Network Hub and this latest achievement further enhances its reputation.

  • Sustainable Development Agenda - Trust-wide programme shortlisted for the Improving Environmental and Social Sustainability Award which recognises organisations and systems that have changed ways of working to improve sustainability while enhancing patient care.

The Sustainable Development Agenda has become integral to the Trust’s core business and is having a very positive social, economic and environmental impact.

John Short, Chief Executive of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is a real achievement to have one finalist but to have finalists in two different categories of the HSJ Awards is tremendous. The competition is fierce.

“More importantly, the teams of staff involved in both our shortlisted initiatives have shown great commitment and passion in implementing and developing projects for the benefit of the Trust and the local communities we serve.”

Launched in 1981, the HSJ Awards recognise the projects and initiatives that deliver healthcare excellence. Through highlighting cutting-edge innovations and best practice, the awards give impetus to improving the quality of health care in the UK.
