A grand design by our Forensic Children and Adolescent Mental Health service users

Over the last few months our young service users have completed an impressive project designing privacy screens for the courtyard area at Ardenleigh’s new unit.

They worked closely with Carbon Colour who produce a wide range of outdoor displays to create designs for the privacy screens around the courtyard. Together they came up with three themes: City Scape, Sports and Leisure and Chill-out. Each design (pictured below) represented the courtyard’s different uses; such as leisure and recreation time, occupational therapy activities.

The project has successfully created a private space for people and the designs have brightened up the outside area, giving a fun and youthful feel.

Jo Hemming, Clinical Nurse Manager, Youth Inpatient Services said: “I am really proud of how the young people worked together to support improvements to their environment. They have produced brilliant designs that look fabulous!”

Andrew Rice, See Me Development Worker, added: “This project continues to reinforce the success our Forensic children and adolescent mental health service (FCAMHS) has with engaging and involving the young people in all aspects of service delivery”

The response has been extremely positive from staff, young people, their families and carers, and the designs have brightened up the outside space.

A service user from Pacific Ward, FCAMHS, commented: “The new screens are pretty cool, the pictures are awesome and it is really effective.”
