Extra GP walk-in centre to open in Solihull over Easter period

Published: 30/03/2015

A temporary GP walk-in centre will open in Chelmsley Wood for four days over the Easter weekend.

Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group has funded the service to be run from Chelmsley Wood Primary Care Centre, Crabtree Drive, Chelmsley Wood B37 5BU.

The walk-in centre will be open from 9am to 6pm on the following days:

  • Friday 3 April (Good Friday)
  • Saturday 4 April
  • Sunday 5 April (Easter Sunday)
  • Monday 6 April (Easter Monday)

The initiative follows the success of a similar service which ran last Easter and over Christmas. The service in Chelmsley Wood will complement the existing GP walk-in centre based on the Solihull Hospital site.

Dr Sue Harrower, a partner at Coventry Road Surgery, Sheldon, and a member of the CCG’s Governing Body, said: “The temporary walk-in centre in Chelmsley Wood will give our patients greater choice over the Easter weekend and help reduce the demand on urgent care services, especially A&E.

“I want to remind people that A&E is for serious injuries and illnesses. There are other options for people: they can visit their GP, a pharmacy or a walk-in centre, call the 24-hour NHS 111 helpline, or visit the NHS Choices website.
