Help shape urgent and emergency care in Sandwell and West Birmingham

Published: 04/03/2015

Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group are holding a listening exercise, giving local people the chance to shape urgent and emergency care services.

The CCG want to hear your thoughts on how urgent and emergency care in Sandwell and West Birmingham could be improved.

The review is being carried out by Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG and is supported by the Right Care Right Here Partnership, set up ten years ago to deliver quality healthcare in Sandwell and West Birmingham. The partnership is made up of local healthcare organisations including BSMHFT.

Right-care-right-here

At the heart of the Right Care Right Here programme is the transformation of local services, including urgent and emergency care, to prepare for the new Midland Met Hospital due to open in Smethwick by 2018.

Why are they reviewing urgent and emergency care services?

Urgent and emergency care reviews are currently taking place across the whole of England due to the increasing pressure being faced by the services. In Sandwell and West Birmingham, patients have already said they find the services confusing, with many unsure of the best place to go for care.

The CCG want to understand what people’s views are as they develop their urgent and emergency care strategy for the future. The review is at a very early stage and no decisions have been taken about any of the services involved.

On the completion of the listening exercise, all feedback will be reviewed. If the feedback suggests changes to the services need to be made, a list of options will be drawn up. The CCG will want to work with clinicians and patients and wider stakeholders to develop this into proposed option(s) in autumn 2015. If significant changes are needed, the CCG will want to carry out a formal consultation to hear your views.
