Annual Celebration of Nursing for World Mental Health Day

Published: 22/09/2016

In commemoration of World Mental Health Day, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are holding their annual Celebration of Nursing on Thursday 13 October 2016.

This year’s event will take place from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at the Birmingham City Football Club, St Andrew’s Stadium, Cattell Road, B9 4RL and we are pleased to invite members of the public to join us for this celebration.

The event is free to attend, and guests are welcome to arrive from 12.30pm onward, for registration, refreshments and an opportunity to enjoy our displays. The ceremony itself will commence at 1.30pm and will include the finals of our annuals 6Cs Nursing Awards, the presentation of our nursing and HCA badge recipients and our Nursing Advisory Council’s Outstanding Contribution Award in memory of our nursing colleague and former Leader of Sandwell Council, Darren Cooper.

Patrick Cullen, organiser of the BSMHFT Annual Celebration of Nursing and Senior Nurse for Professional Standards when describing the Outstanding Contribution Award said “This award is voted on by the Council and is given to someone who is not a nurse but who has made an outstanding contribution in support of nursing or our service users. It is our way of recognising that quality nursing relies on the support of others.”

“This year’s recipient will be Diana Markman, an Associate Director, who recently retired from the Trust. From this year on we will be dedicating this award to the memory of our late colleague Darren Cooper and it will henceforth be known as the Darren Cooper Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution.”

“In addition to the awards we have music, dance and a lot of fun along the way at what has become a landmark on the Trust’s annual calendar.”
