Local community and young people’s mental health services up and running despite fire at Harborne site

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is reassuring users of its community and young people’s services at the Yewcroft centre in Harborne, following a serious fire on the night of 11 January 2016.

No-one was in the building at the time of the fire and the emergency services were quickly on the scene, however due to significant damage the building will be closed for the foreseeable future.  

The Trust has robust contingency plans in place to ensure the immediate and safe transfer of services to other Trust sites and affected service users are being contacted directly. 

However, it wishes to inform the wider public of arrangements following the closure of Yewcroft.

In the immediate term, the Yewcroft Community Mental Health Team has until further notice been transferred to:

6 Mindelsohn Crescent

Yewcroft’s Early Intervention service has transferred to be co-located with the Trust’s other Early Intervention services at:

1 Miller Street
B6 4NF

Brendan Hayes, Executive Director of Operations at the Trust, said: “We would like to thank West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Police for their prompt response to this incident, the cause of which is currently being investigated. Through our emergency planning procedures we have been able to quickly transfer services to other appropriate Trust sites with little interruption to appointments or clinics. We do, however, appreciate that this is disruptive for some service users and would like to reassure them that we are doing everything we can to minimise this and make the transfer as smooth as possible.”
