BSMHFT are recruiting for Lay Managers

Published: 24/04/2017

We are continuously striving to improve service provision and working with local, regional partners and commissioners we are seeking to ensure we provide optimum services which meet our service user and carer needs.

We are currently looking to expand our team of Lay Managers, who undertake a crucial role in both hearing appeals from patients against detention and considering the legality of the detention of patients under the Mental Health Act with two other formal panel members.

It is important that the team is representative of the population we serve, and we would therefore particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of mental illness, from ethnic minority groups and of working age.  All applicants should have a keen interest in mental health issues.

Essential requirements are the ability to operate in a complex decision making role; dealing with highly sensitive and/or distressing issues; dealing with a range of professionals and agencies; ability to reach independent sound judgements based solely upon the evidence (which may be conflicting).

The commitment involves an average of 3-4 half days per month Monday- Friday, on a flexible basis, plus 4 meetings per annum.

Full training will be provided on the Mental Health Act.

As Lay Managers have to be independent, employees of the Trust may not apply.

For an application pack please contact: Fausteen Falconer on 0121 301 1282

If you wish to discuss the role further, please contact: Waheed Saleem, Non Executive Director on 07841 484837

Closing date for applications is: 31 May 2017
