Highlights 2017/2018

Key impacts and achievements from 2017/2018

  • We recruited 738 participants to NIHR portfolio studies (exceeding our target of 702)
  • We had 91 articles accepted in high quality journals, books and book reviews
  • We are the top recruiting organisation to Dementia studies in the West Midlands
  • We participated in the first human trial of disease modification in Huntington disease (IONIS-HD)
  • 105 research teams have been supported by the R&I governance team at various stages of the research pathway
  • 38 requests for service evaluation support were received compared to 20 in 16/17 and 23 Service Evaluation approvals were issued (more than double that of the previous year). The majority of individuals had not approached the research and innovation department previously.
  • 14 teams/individuals have contacted us in relation to innovation ideas.
  • We were awarded ‘Innovative Organisation of the Year’ and our CADDI (Capacity and Demand Dashboard Information) awarded ‘Mental Health Innovation’ at the WM AHSN’s Celebration of Innovation awards
  • 100% of patients recruited to NIHR portfolio studies were achieved within the first 30 days post approval
