Clinical Trial Facilities (CRF)

At any one time the Trust will be supporting a number of clinical trials, most of which involve new treatments.

These trials have to be conducted within the standards set by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). We therefore aim to ensure that all the necessary equipment and facilities required to conduct clinical trials are available and regularly maintained.

These facilities are available to ensure that the appropriate measures are taken to guarantee:

  • the safety and comfort of service users and their carers

  • security for trial medication, service user records and any other confidential information

  • effective and secure communication of anonymised data during trials between the CRF researchers and colleagues based in pharmaceutical companies

  • reliability of trial data

We have two Clinical Trial Facilities:

The Barberry
25 Vincent Drive
B15 2FG

Northcroft CTFs
190 Reservoir Road
B23 6DW

Both facilities have a physical examination room for use in clinical trials use and contain:

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Scanner / fax
  • Locked drug cupboard
  • Centrifuge
  • Weight / height scale
  • BP measuring device
  • Fridge
  • Freezer -20C
  • Freezer -80C (The Barberry only)
  • Locked file / general storage cupboards
  • Patient thermometer
  • ECG machine

Additional equipment required for specific trials are sometimes provided on loan from pharmaceutical companies. All equipment used during drug trials are regularly maintained and calibrated. To enquire about the use of these facilities, please contact: bsmhft.researchinnovation@nhs.net
