Over the years, mental health services have changed a great deal in Birmingham and Solihull, with more service and treatment options available.

At the moment there is a growing and very welcome national focus on mental health and wellbeing. We therefore have an opportunity to reflect on and look at how we can improve what we do.

Why change?

Many of you will be aware that we have to do more with our money as there are reductions in the amount of resources available to provide health and social care services.

We also need to change in line with the new service arrangements in Birmingham for people under 25. This means that many of the services we currently provide for people up to the age of 25 will transfer to the new provider, Forward Thinking Birmingham, between October 2015 and April 2016. This does not apply in Solihull where our Trust provides services for children and young people.

Over the past six months we have been listening to feedback from service users, families and friends, from stakeholders and partners and from our staff.

Our ambition for New Dawn is to improve what we do, to respond to all the feedback we have had and make some important changes to the way we work. This will ensure we make the best use of resources, meet the needs of people who are using our services and work together in partnership to support mental health and wellbeing in the wider community.

Everyone is getting involved – including service users, families, carers, staff, clinicians, stakeholders and commissioners - all taking part now and in the future, working together to keep improving what we do.
