Carers, families and friends

Families and carers play a vital role in supporting people with mental health problems.  We know this role can sometimes be difficult, demanding and lonely.  As well as providing care and treatment for the people who use our services, we are also here to support you. If you have a problem, if something is worrying you, or if you are confused about how to get help, then please talk to us.

The Trust's Carers’ Strategy has been developed to set out key aims and recommends specific actions and best practice:

The 5 strategic aims are:

1) To raise awareness of carers

2) To improvement the involvement of carers

3) To support carers better

4) Sharing and providing information

5) Working in partnership with families

Our trust has a carers' strategy which outlines how we will support, advise and involve carers throughout our services at all times. For a copy of the strategy please click here or contact our customer relations team who will be able to send you a copy.

Our Trust actively seeks to engage families and carers in the services that we provide. We recognise the vital part you play in the recovery of the person you support. In addition, there are a number of resources and support networks offered by the trust and by partner organisations which is why the Trust also works in partnership with local authorities, carers and third sector organisations to ensure our carers have access to broader support offered external to the Trust.

Our Trust also has a real commitment to families and carers and our aim is to listen and  improve our services based on the feedback we receive from our service users and families. If you would like to discuss any concerns you may have or would like to give us some feedback on your experience of our services please contact our Customer Relations  PALS service. They can be contacted on 0800 9530045 (Monday-Friday  8am to 6pm) or by email: bsmhft.customerrelations@nhs.net
