A lot can happen in 75 years. We are continuing the NHS 75 birthday celebrations today by looking back at some of the mental health changes that Birmingham has seen over the last three quarters of a century.

Thankfully, today’s society has come a long way from institutionalised asylums, types of treatment, attitudes towards talking openly about mental health and we are starting to see a shift with mental illness illnesses becoming less stigmatised.

Throughout the timeline, you will see just how far the NHS has evolved from the 40s to the present day. From early intervention support for WW2 veterans suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to investigating breakthrough trials for Huntington’s disease, we cover just how much we have evolved overtime to meet the needs of the people we care for.

Remember, it’s okay to not be okay. One in four people will struggle with their mental health at some point in their lives.

Help is always available – a team of mental health professionals are just a phone call away – 0121 262 3555.
