For our second staff shoutout of the day we are shining a light on Stephen Simpson, Healthcare Assistant at Meadowcroft, who was nominated by Steve Forsyth.

Steve said:

“Steve goes the extra mile for the patients in his care, I have been the other member of staff on section 17 leave with him and witnessed his compassion and putting the person first. He often works over to ensure the ward is safe and provides a calmness in a challenged environment. I can’t wait to see him develop and get on his OT/AHP training!”

“I have worked within a mental setting for approximately 10 years. I do enjoy my job and all aspects of supporting patients on their journey of recovery and treatment.

I come from Jamaican descent, with my grandparents being part of the Windrush generation. My heritage holds great significance to me as it represents my roots and connection to a rich cultural history. Exploring and celebrating my family’s history brings me a sense of pride and belonging.

One of my favourite aspects of my heritage is the vibrant Jamaican cuisine. The flavours and spices used in dishes like jerk chicken, curry goat, and ackee and saltfish are simply incredible. The taste of traditional dishes instantly transports me to the lively streets of Jamaica, evoking a sense of nostalgia and comfort.

Moreover, the Jamaican culture is known for its joyful and welcoming spirit. The music, dance, and overall vibrancy of the cultural celebrations, such as Carnival and Reggae festivals, are incredible experiences that I cherish. They allow me to connect with my heritage and embrace the lively energy that flows through Jamaican traditions.

Being of Jamaican heritage also means being part of a resilient and strong community. The stories of my grandparents and their journey to create a better life inspire me to overcome obstacles and strive for success. Their determination and perseverance provide a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience and hard work.

“Overall, my Jamaican heritage serves as a constant reminder of where I come from and the values that shape my identity. From the mouth-watering cuisine to the vibrant culture and the feeling of being back home, each aspect holds a special place in my heart. It is a beautiful part of who I am and a source of pride that I carry with me every day.”
