Caring for someone with psychosis

A carer is a family member or friend that that helps an individual experiencing psychosis with their day-to –day tasks at home.

Caring for someone with psychosis can be difficult and that is why we feel it is important for carers to receive as much support as they need.

We have a carers group where you can meet other families/friends of service users and share experiences. We also have Behavioural Family Therapy that can provide you with education on caring for someone with psychosis but can also provide specific help tailored to your situational needs such as issues with  communication, stress reduction, relapse prevention and much more.

Below we have a number of leaflets that can answer any questions you may have regarding your loved ones  treatment, what they are likely to be experiencing and advice and tips on how to care effectively.

If there is anything that you would like to discuss further, please speak to the care coordinator allocated to your loved one who will  try and answer your queries or put you in contact with someone who can.

The Meriden Family Programme is also an excellent source of support and advice. They have developed a very useful app which many service users and families have found to be of great help.

If you are busy caring for someone with psychosis, you can have very little time for yourself. But, it is especially important that you do, because after all, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
