Legal services

The legal services team deals with areas such as clinical negligence, employer and public liability, coroners’ inquests and representation at interviews with the Police and Prison Probation Ombudsman, reports and attendance at Coroners Court, small claims, and patient, solicitor and Police access requests.

When a team receives a request from Solicitors/Tribunal to prepare a court report, ensure signed consent is received from patient, where applicable. Once the report has been prepared by the team, if you require the trust solicitor/lawyer to view this they will be happy to approve its release.

Court Orders – ensure this is received in writing and request a copy of the court order from appropriate authority.

Police Requests – ensure correct authority is enclosed (WA170 form) from police duly completed and signed by them – details of why information is required.

The requests should be e-mailed (as soon as it has been received) to the following e-mail address bsmhft.legalteamsecretary@nhs.net
