The Trust’s Culture of Care programme is continuing to gain momentum, with colleagues, service users and carers working together to deliver meaningful improvements across services through Quality Improvement (QI) approaches.
A recent Board Strategy Session showcased how teams across the organisation are embedding the principles of Culture of Care into everyday practice, creating positive changes that enhance experiences for service users, carers and colleagues alike.
Among the projects highlighted was the transformation of an outdoor space at Eden Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) into the welcoming ‘Secret Garden’. Developed through co-production, the space provides a calming environment where service users can relax, reflect and connect with nature.
The session also heard about Newbridge House’s successful ‘Out of Office Hour’, which has created valuable opportunities for colleagues and service users to spend time together outside of formal clinical settings, helping to strengthen relationships and improve engagement.
Elsewhere, teams at Tamarind and Reaside are using feedback from service users to enhance night-time experiences on their wards. By listening to what matters most to those accessing services, colleagues are identifying practical improvements that can make a positive difference to wellbeing and comfort.
Another key development has been the introduction of new ‘Planning the Service User Day’ standards, which are helping to ensure care is more personalised and centred around individual needs, preferences and recovery goals.
The Board Strategy Session highlighted how Culture of Care is becoming a shared way of working across the Trust. By connecting frontline improvements with wider organisational priorities, teams are creating sustainable changes that support high-quality, compassionate care and improve experiences for everyone who uses and delivers services.
As the programme continues to evolve, the Trust remains committed to empowering colleagues, service users and carers to work together to identify opportunities for improvement and drive positive change across services.
