A patient supported by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s Prison Mental Health In-Reach Team at HMP Birmingham has received national recognition after winning the Quality Network for Prison Mental Health (QNPMH) Summer Art Competition.
The patient’s artwork, titled Summer Solstice, Solstice, was chosen as the winning entry from submissions received from prison mental health services across the QNPMH network. The patient has kindly given permission for the painting to be shared and celebrated more widely.
To mark the achievement, members of the Prison Mental Health In-Reach Team presented the patient with a selection of art supplies in recognition of their talent and success.
The annual competition highlights the important role that creative activities can play in supporting wellbeing, self-expression and recovery. Through opportunities such as art, patients can explore new ways of expressing themselves, building confidence and developing positive coping strategies.
The Prison Mental Health In-Reach Team was delighted to see the patient’s work recognised on a national stage and praised the dedication and creativity demonstrated through the winning piece.
This success reflects the positive impact that creativity can have on mental wellbeing and recovery, while showcasing the talent and achievements of people accessing mental health support within prison settings.
