This week, many of us are surrounded by over-indulgence, but it’s important to remember how excessive drinking can impact your mental health.

While many people can drink safely over the festive season*, it can easily get out of control when we are invited to parties or dinners.

Too much alcohol can have adverse effects on our mental health, symptoms could include:

  • Memory loss
  • Depression
  • Insomnia (inability to sleep)
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased anxiety

Many people will start the New Year with a resolution… but why not start now? If you are trying to cut back on your drinking there are many psychological, social and financial benefits to this! Just a few examples include:

  • Improved mood
  • Better sleep
  • More energy
  • Saving money

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, we are here for you. Please visit www.sias-solihull.org.uk to find out more about our alcohol support services and find helpful tips to limit your drinking over the New Year and beyond.

* The NHS advise men and women not to drink more than 14 units a week. Spread your drinking over three or more days if you regularly drink as much as 14 units a week. Always consult your GP or alcohol support team.
