Intensive care

Similar to an intensive treatment unit in a general hospital, this service provides intensive care and treatment to adults, who because they are mentally very unwell, need a level of care and treatment that cannot be provided on a standard inpatient unit.

Intensive care
The service provides intensive mental health treatment to adults who are mentally very unwell, and who need additional treatment and support that cannot be provided on a standard inpatient unit.
The Psychiatric Intensice Care Unit (PICU) offers care and treatment, often short term, to enable patients to either return home to care within the community or to another inpatient setting. 
Admissions to our intensive care units can happen at anytime. Referrals are usually made by a range of healthcare professionals and sometimes by prison services.
