Liaison Psychiatry

The Liaison Psychiatry team is a specialist multidisciplinary mental health service which offers a compassionate, person-centred and non-judgemental service to patients suffering from mental health problems aged 16 and over, who are attending A&E or are inpatients in hospital. We work closely with acute hospital clinicians and other services such as Change Grow Live (CGL) to determine the best care for patients.

Who uses our service

The Liaison Psychiatry service is for people aged 16 and over with mental health needs who access A&E departments in hospitals in Birmingham and Solihull.

How we can help

We provide:

  • One point of contact and access for the acute hospital.
  • Timely reviews and assessments for patients referred from A&E and hospital wards.
  • Early detection of mental health problems to enable rapid and appropriate intervention.
  • Continuity of care for people already known to mental health services.
  • Help with discharge planning, and general advice and support.

The team

The team comprises of nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists and physicians assistants who are experienced at working in mental health.

How to access our services

Referrals are made internally within acute hospital A&E departments.
