Patients on Coral Ward were treated to a unique spa day on 14 June, as the ward team transformed the environment into a relaxing wellness retreat designed to promote wellbeing and provide a memorable experience.

Planned over several months, the event gave patients the opportunity to enjoy a personalised spa experience, with each person able to choose from a special menu including breakfast options, smoothies and a range of activities. Throughout the day, patients took part in yoga sessions, pampering treatments, hairstyling and nail care.

To create an authentic spa atmosphere, the ward was decorated with aromatherapy oils, rose petals, mood lighting and calming music, while herbal teas were available throughout the day. Patients were also provided with robes and slippers to help them fully immerse themselves in the experience.

The day was further enhanced by support from colleagues at Anawim – Birmingham’s Centre for Women – who kindly volunteered their time to provide relaxing neck massages.

The initiative was inspired by a patient who had shared her wish to visit a spa. Wanting to make that wish a reality, the Coral Ward team brought the spa experience directly to the ward, creating a special day that was enjoyed by everyone involved.

The event reflects the team’s commitment to providing person-centred care and finding creative ways to support the wellbeing and recovery of the people they care for.
