Cedar Ward has been named Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s Team of the Month for August in recognition of its compassionate and innovative support for a patient living with advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
The team received the award after being nominated for the exceptional care they provided to a patient whose complex needs required a highly personalised approach. Working closely with the patient’s family, colleagues developed a care plan that balanced safety with rehabilitation, helping the individual achieve greater independence and improve their overall wellbeing.
The nomination highlighted the team’s commitment to seeing the person behind the diagnosis. By tailoring support to the patient’s individual needs and aspirations, staff were able to enhance their quality of life while continuing to deliver high-quality care for all patients on the ward.
Judges praised the ward’s dedication, teamwork and person-centred approach, which demonstrated the Trust’s Values in action and showcased the positive difference compassionate care can make.
Two other teams were also recognised for their outstanding contributions. The Specialist Psychotherapies Service and the Uffculme Operations and Reception Team were shortlisted for the award, with both teams commended for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to delivering excellent services.
The Team of the Month award celebrates the achievements of teams across the Trust who go above and beyond to support patients, service users, carers and colleagues.
Members of staff are encouraged to nominate teams that have made a positive difference and demonstrated the Trust’s Values through their work.
