On Friday 29 December, His Majesty The King announced his 2024 New Year Honours list recognising the extraordinary contributions and service of people across the UK. We’re thrilled to hear that Dr Ed Day MBE, Consultant Psychiatrist at Solihull Integrated Addictions Service (SIAS) has received an MBE for services to vulnerable people.

He has worked as a Consultant in Addiction Psychiatry for the Trust since 2003, first working for the Slade Road Community Drug team in Erdington, later joining SIAS in 2015.

He said:

“It has been an honour and a privilege to work with committed, passionate staff for 20 years, and especially rewarding to walk the journey to recovery alongside hundreds of clients of the service. I am proud to say that a significant number of them are now colleagues, working as part of a recovery-orientated system of care in Solihull.”

Dr Day combines clinical work with SIAS and carries out research and teaching at the University of Birmingham.

He specialises in the treatment of drug and alcohol use disorders, and his research focuses on testing novel pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.

Dr Day currently teaches about addiction-related issues and is developing a module on addictions and mental illness on the new Institute for Mental Health MSc program.

He is the National Recovery Champion and was appointed by the Home Office in May 2019 and is also the Vice-President of the Society for the Study of Addiction.

His colleagues in SIAS have taken the opportunity to say congratulations in their own special way. Congratulations Ed!
