Physical health and activities

Looking after your physical health is very important and can also help your mental wellbeing. There are a number of groups specifically aimed at service users to gain healthy exercise. These groups are listed in the Opportunities Yearbook which you’ll find on the local groups and events page.

Making Every Contact Count (MECC), a government initiative, is about staff using the contact they have with service users and the public to give healthy lifestyle information around stopping smoking, drinking alcohol within recommended limits, having a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight and undertaking the recommended levels of physical activity.

Our staff will ask about your physical health and they will also ask whether you have taken up your annual health check at your GP surgery.

It is important to attend your annual health check because it enables early action to be taken if anything is wrong. The health check comprises of blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol reading, weight and height measurements for body mass index monitoring. They will also take a blood sample which can be checked for things such as diabetes.
