Colleagues from across Birmingham and Solihull came together on 10 June for the second Allied Health Professions (AHP) Support Workforce Conference – a vibrant and inspiring event designed by support workers, for support workers.

The conference welcomed AHP support workers from across Birmingham and Solihull, alongside colleagues from the Black Country, providing an opportunity to connect, share learning and celebrate the invaluable contribution support workers make to patient care every day.

A standout feature of the event was the leadership shown by the support workforce. Support workers played a key role in every stage of the conference, from planning the programme and developing content to supporting delivery on the day. Their involvement showcased the talent, expertise and commitment that support workers bring to healthcare services across the region.

Throughout the day, delegates took part in a range of sessions exploring education, training and career development opportunities. Colleagues heard from education providers and staff who shared their own progression journeys, helping attendees gain insight into the wide variety of pathways available within the AHP workforce.

Interactive workshops, breakout sessions and networking opportunities encouraged collaboration and the sharing of ideas across organisations. Attendees discussed what is working well within the workforce, explored future opportunities and identified priorities to help strengthen support for AHP support workers moving forward.

The conference also featured spotlight sessions showcasing the diverse roles carried out by support workers and the positive impact they have on patient care and service delivery. An education marketplace offered additional opportunities for learning and networking, alongside displays highlighting the work of services and partner organisations.

The day concluded with a powerful call to action, encouraging colleagues to continue developing their skills, sharing their ideas and championing the support workforce within their teams and organisations. Attendees were reminded of the important role support workers will play in shaping the future of healthcare and delivering high-quality care for patients.

The energy, enthusiasm and collaboration demonstrated throughout the event reflected the strength and ambition of the AHP support workforce. Everyone involved should feel proud of the momentum created, leaving colleagues inspired, motivated and ready to continue making a difference for patients, service users and their communities.

A special thank you goes to all those involved in organising, supporting and attending the conference, helping to make the event such a success.
