Mental health leaders and clinicians from across the UK will come together in Birmingham next month, to explore the future of neighbourhood mental health centres and share learning from Birmingham’s pioneering model.
Hosted by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), From Pilot to Practice: Lessons from the Neighbourhood Mental Health Model will take place on Tuesday 2 June 2026 at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC).
The conference follows the launch of Birmingham’s first Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre – one of only six pilot sites nationally – and will focus on what sustainable 24/7 community mental health provision requires organisationally, clinically and culturally.
The event is open to clinicians, service leaders, managers and commissioners with an interest in community mental health transformation, particularly those working in or considering neighbourhood-based and 24/7 models of care.
Running from 9.30am to 4.30pm, the full-day programme will explore three key themes: system change; practice and culture; and clinical leadership. Delegates can expect keynote presentations, case study sessions and a closing panel discussion with questions from the audience.
Guest speakers include Professor Tim Kendall CBE (National Mental Health Clinical Lead for New Models of Care at NHS England), internationally recognised psychiatrist Dr Roberto Mezzina, co-architect of the WHO-recognised Trieste model (adopted at BSMHFT) and Dr Sheraz Ahmad (Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Lead at Barnsley Street NMHC in east London).
BSMHFT speakers include Dr Fabida Aria (Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director), Dr Selvaraj Vincent (Clinical Lead at the Golden Hillock Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre) Dr Sadira Teeluckdharry (Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Director) and Dr Imran Waheed (Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Director).
The delegate fee is £135 and includes refreshments and a hot lunch. Tickets and further information are available via Ticketebo.
