A new co-produced film and booklet are being developed to support people preparing for inpatient admission at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Led by the Trust’s Quality Improvement team, the project follows a successful bid to the Learning Improvement Network and aims to improve how individuals experience admission to inpatient services.

The resources are being introduced as part of a more therapeutic, person-centred approach and will become standard practice for all inpatient admissions once launched.

The film offers a warm and honest introduction to inpatient care, helping people understand what to expect by showcasing the ward environment, daily therapeutic activities and the purpose of admission. By providing clear and accessible information, it aims to help reduce anxiety ahead of admission.

The project has been developed in partnership with colleagues from Acute Operations and the Patient Experience team, alongside lived experience partners. This co-produced approach ensures the content is practical, compassionate and grounded in what matters most to people using services.

This work supports the Birmingham and Solihull Inpatient Strategy by promoting planned, therapeutic admissions developed in partnership with individuals and their chosen carers.
