Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) is proud to recognise Dr Hamid Hassan as its Audit Icon 2026, celebrating his outstanding contribution to clinical audit and quality improvement.
The recognition forms part of Clinical Audit Awareness Week (22–26 June), which highlights the vital role clinical audit plays in improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of patient care.
Dr Hassan, a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist within the Trust’s Secure Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), has dedicated more than 20 years to using clinical audit to drive meaningful improvements for patients and service users.
Throughout his career, he has championed the use of audit as a tool for learning, development and service improvement. His work has led to a number of significant achievements, including initiatives to reduce inpatient weight gain and delivering 100 per cent compliance with sexual health screening standards.
Dr Hassan is widely recognised for his commitment to improving outcomes for young people, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement across clinical teams. By combining innovation, evidence-based practice and collaboration, he has helped ensure that services continue to evolve in response to the needs of patients and families.
Speaking about the recognition, colleagues highlighted Dr Hassan’s passion for quality improvement and his ability to inspire those around him to use audit findings to make lasting changes to care delivery.
Clinical Audit Awareness Week provides an opportunity to celebrate individuals and teams who use audit to identify areas for improvement, measure performance against recognised standards and implement changes that enhance patient care.
Dr Hassan’s dedication to these principles has made a lasting impact within Secure CAMHS and across the wider Trust, making him a deserving recipient of this year’s Audit Icon award.
Congratulations to Dr Hassan on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your continued commitment to improving care and outcomes for the young people who use our services.
